10642 Rhododendron ‘Unique’ — (campylocarpum hybrid) 4', -5°F, EM, 3/4-5. ‘Unique’ is unique! We really like its attractive, smooth, oblong leaves. They are so dense on the rounded plant that it becomes a thick mound of clover green. In the spring, the buds burst forth a bright pink which open to beautiful buttery cream flowers. Older plants become so covered with flowers that every leaf is hidden. 6-10", 10-15", 21-30", 30-36" 10338 Rhododendron ‘Unique Marmalade’ — (‘Orange Marmalade’ x ‘Unique’) 3', 0°F, EM, -/-. The first colors you will see on the plant are the bright red buds which open to deep pink flowers. The center of each flower is orange making a delightful two toned appearance. It is a dense growing plant with good foliage. This new plant from Joe Davis is a real Winner! 15-21" 10814 Rhododendron ‘Unknown Warrior’ — (‘Queen Wilhelmina’ x ‘Stanley Davies’) 5', 5°F, E- EM, 3/3. Early in the spring, this begins to flower as a light but bright, dazzling red. This is a rapid and sometimes open growing plant, in full flower it is a real display. 15-21", 21-30", 36-48" 10639 Rhododendron ‘Van’ — (griersonianum x ‘Countess of Derby’) 6', -5°F, ML, 3-4/4. Here is a sister to ‘Anna Rose Whitney’. The cross, made by Van Veen and named ‘Van’ in his honor, is more compact and hardier with smaller, prominently veined foliage. The handsome, profusely blooming plant has deep pink flowers with a distinctive, darker center. A superior variety and one of the most attractive foliage plants that we have in the nursery. 10-15", 36-48" 10637 Rhododendron ‘Van Nes Sensation’ — (‘Sir Charles Butler’ x ‘White Pearl’) 5', -5°F, M, 4/4. Luscious, fragrant, light orchid pink flowers. Attractive foliage on a full strong plant. Foliage is deep green, and provides an excellent backdrop for the trusses that abound on this ‘sensational’ plant! 10-15" 10569 Rhododendron ‘Very Berry’ — (‘Trude Webster’ x ‘Jean Marie de Montague’) 6', -10°F, M-ML, 4/4-5. Gigantic is the word to describe this showy rose-red hybrid. It has magnificent perfectly cone shaped trusses, and large fir green leaves. The leaves are up to 10" long, with 1' tall trusses. It is a fabulous hybrid! 6-10", 10-15", 15-21", 21-30", 30-36" 10502 Rhododendron ‘Vibrant Violet’ — (impeditum x augustinii ‘Towercourt’) 3', 0°F, EM, 4/4. The name says it all. Small, pointed dark green leaves are a beautiful backdrop for these very bright violet flowers on a plant that tends to stay small. 10-15", 15-21" 11013 Rhododendron ‘Viennese Waltz’ — (‘Lem’s Cameo’ x ‘Pink Petticoats’) 5', 0°F, M, -/-. Rhodonite pink buds open up to fragrant flowers of lighter pink with orange-brown spotting. The flowers fade to a nice light creamy pink. Large, 9" wide trusses hold as many as 34, densely packed flowers. True to its parentage, this is a very handsome plant with dark green leaves, that grows almost as wide as it is tall. Shall we dance? 10-15", 21-30" 10636 ‘Rhododendron Vincent Van Gogh’ — (elepidote hybrid of unknown parentage) 5', -10°F, M, 4/2-3. Here is a variety that is seldom seen. It has an almost unbelievable flower somewhat like ‘Rainbow’ only better. It has a very white center with a red picot edge and red on the back side of the flower. Dark yew green foliage. 6-10", 21-30" 10635 Rhododendron ‘Virginia Richards’ — ([wardii x ‘F.C. Puddle’] x ‘Mrs. Betty Robertson’) 4', 0°F, M, 4/4. A good healthy grower with flowers that open pink, turning to yellow with a crimson blotch. Plant has a compact habit with dark, glossy leaves. ‘Virginia Richards’ is a good looking plant with large flower buds. A must have plant. 6-10", 10-15", 48-60" 10664 ‘Rhododendron Viscy’ — (‘Diane’ x viscidifolium) 5', -10°F, ML, 3/3. Large orange-yellow flowers with bold, dark-red spotting make up the flower of this Rhododendron. This is a rather open plant with large, dark and shiny leaves. The flowers are very unusual and always attract comments. ‘Viscy’ is hardier than most orange hybrids. 6-10" 10634 ‘Rhododendron Vulcan’s Flame’ — (griersonianum x ‘Mars’) 5', -15°F, ML, 4/4. This is the reverse cross of ‘Vulcan’. In other words, ‘Mars’ was the seed parent of ‘Vulcan’ and R. griersonianum was the seed parent of ‘Vulcan’s Flame’. To be truthful, this is nearly identical to the best form of ‘Vulcan’. It has bright red flowers that glow like a warm fire. Foliage is deep yew green with red stems. 10-15" 11039 Rhododendron ‘Vulcan’ tetraploid — (‘Mars’ x griersonianum) 5', -15°F, ML, 4/4. We are making a trial run of this plant which was found in a field of ‘Vulcan’s’. After a few years the grower realized that this plant, as well as all of the cuttings from it, grew differently than the others. For the most part it is very similar to ‘Vulcan.’ There are exceptions: The leaves on this plant are larger, flatter, and thicker, which in turn make it less susceptible to tip burn (i.e. more sun tolerant) It is also a more vigorous grower than the original, but as far as we know the flowers are still the same size and gorgeous red color! 6-10", 21-30", 30-36" 10332 Rhododendron ‘War Dance’ — (‘Mars’ x ‘Pygmalion’) 4', -10°F, M, -/-. Bright currant-red flowers are accented by a black dorsal blotch. Each separate flower is nearly 3" across and has 5 wavy lobes. This has dark green leaves on a plant that grows wider than tall. A desirable plant for that spot needing a bright, deep red. 21-30" 10429 ‘Rhododendron Warlock’ — (‘Romany Chal’ x ‘Purple Splendour’) 6', 0°F, L, 4/2-3. Very deep black purple flowers make this plant especially interesting. It has tight rounded trusses which appear freely on the red leaf stems; the new growth is maroon. If you like deep colors here is one for you. This plant has been grown under the name of ‘Midnight’, but should not be confused with the true ‘Midnight’ from Australia. 6-10", 10-15", 30-36" 10165 Rhododendron ‘Wee Bee’ — (campylognum ‘Patricia’ x keiskei ‘Yaku Fairy’) 1', 5°F, EM, 4/4. A well branched dwarf, which will achieve a size that is twice as wide as high. The small, dense foliage completely covers the mounded plant. Yellowish pink buds open to flowers with red lobes shading to pink in the throat. 6-10", 10-15" 10776 Rhododendron ‘Weston’s Aglo’ — (minus var. minus Carolinianum Group x minus var. minus) 3', -25°F, EM, 3-4/3-4. With the same parentage as ‘Olga Mezitt’, this flower exhibits many of the same super qualities, such as sun tolerance and early flowering. This upright plant has flowers of light pink with a reddish eye. 6-10" 10192 Rhododendron ‘Weston’s Pink Diamond’ — (‘PJM’ x mucronulatum ‘Cornell Pink’) 5', -15°F, E, 4/4. Rose-pink buds open to flat, saucer shaped flowers in shades of light fuchsia-purple. These are in ball shaped trusses of 8-12. It is an upright plant, well-branched, with apple green leaves. The leaves turn a red-bronze color in the winter. 21-30" 10174 Rhododendron ‘Whidbey Island’ — (niveum x rex) 6', 0°F, E, -/-. This hybrid has bell-shaped flowers with 5 wavy edged lobes of heavy substance. The moderate purplish red buds open very light purple with narrow edging of vivid violet with a dark purple spot at base of throat and slight spotting near base of upper lobe. The ball shaped trusses are about 5'' around, holding 22-24 moderately floriferous flowers. The dark green leaves are 8'' long and 2'' wide, with felt like hairy coating below. 10-15" 10497 Rhododendron ‘Whisperingrose’ — (williamsianum x ‘Elizabeth’) 3', 0°F, EM, 3-4/4. This plant grows in a compact shape, becoming a verdant mound decorated with buds of fuchsia red. The flowers are a solid rose color and appear as wide open bells covering the plant from top to bottom. Leaves are small and round with wine red leaf stems. It is an easy plant to grow, propagates well and buds young. Instead of whispering, you’ll want to shout for joy about this one! 6-10", 15-21", 21-30" 10617 Rhododendron ‘White Gold’ — (‘Mrs. J. G. Millais’ x ‘Cheyenne’) 5', -10°F, ML, 4/3. We have a six foot plant of ‘White Gold’ in our garden that is about 20 years old. Each spring when it blooms from top to bottom with delicious trusses, we realize that this is something special. The flowers are a pure stark white rolled back at the edges as if trying to show every inch of the golden blotch within. The blotch begins as a burning orange deep in the throat, then widens and lightens into rays of golden yellow reaching out onto the upper lobe. Truly beautiful. 10-15", 15-21", 21-30", 30-36", 36-48" 11000 Rhododendron ‘White Pearl’ — (griffithianum x maximum) 6', 5°F, M, 3/3. Tall conical trusses open with a touch of pastel pink fading to pristine white. This is an extremely vigorous growing, upright plant with dark green slightly rough textured foliage. This would be an excellent plant for a large hedge planting, really grows fast! 15-21" 10173 Rhododendron ‘Whitney Purple’ — (ponticum hybrid) 5', -10°F, M-ML, 3/3-4. Syn. ‘Old Port’. Violet blue flowers have a dark eye that stands out. Glossy and deeply ribbed leaves complete the plant. For all intents and purposes this is the same plant that is sold as ‘Old Port’, though it is done so mistakenly. 15-21", 36-48" 11065 Rhododendron ‘Whitney Tiger Lily’ — (parentage unknown) 3', 5°F, EM, -/-. Truly unique flowers for a Rhododendron, these strongly resemble Tiger Lilies! They are pink with red spotting and a very deeply split calyx. Medium green foliage is held on stems that have a bronzy tone on this upright growing and quite well-branched plant. 10-15" 10596 Rhododendron ‘Whitney’s Late Orange’ — (probably contains dichroanthum and a late flowering member of the Subsection Fortunea) 4', -5°F, L-VL 4/3. If you like ‘Whitney’s Orange’, you’ll love this! It’s a deeper orange and it flowers later in the spring. It is a more upright growing plant with good shape. The solid orange flowers appear in a full truss to delight you after most Rhododendrons are through flowering. Use this to extend the flowering season! 6-10", 30-36" 10526 Rhododendron ‘Wickiup’ — (‘C.I.S.’ x fortunei ssp. fortunei hybrid) 5', 5°F, M, 4/3. A newer introduction from James Elliott, it’s one of those luscious multi-toned peach, orange, apricot and lemon flowers with a touch of cherry in the throat, thrown in for flavor. This is a beautiful flower of unusual color, good foliage, and an all around nice looking plant. 10-15", 15-21" 10348 Rhododendron ‘Wickiup’s Sister’ — (‘C.I.S.’ x fortunei ssp. fortunei hybrid) 5', 5°F, M, 4/3. Now the question comes, which is better, ‘Wickiup’ or ‘Wickiup Sister’? Well they’re both excellent, just different. This one has a more golden flower color which is a delight to the eye. It is a bit more upright in growth habit with good foliage. 10-15", 15-21", 36-48" 10479 Rhododendron ‘Wild Affair’ — (‘Jean Marie de Montague’ x ‘Moser’s Maroon’) 6', -5°F, ML, 4/3-4. Each ‘Wild Affair’ flower glows! The golden yellow blotch appears to diffuse white light throughout the petal lobes to the rich red petal margins. The foliage is large with an interesting twist, and the color a deep fir green. Plant growth is strong, to complete the excellence of this beautiful plant. 15-21", 21-30" 11178 Rhododendron ‘Wind River’ — (Mindy’s Love x [{(Lem’s Goal x Loderi group) x Lem’s Cameo} x {(Lem’s Goal x Loderi group) x Brandt’s Tropicana}] ) 4', 0°F, M, -/-. Ball-shaped trusses of broadly funnel-shaped flowers on this lovely plant. Buds are dark red opening to a cool yellow, with pink wavy edges. The bud color is seen again at the base of the flowers throat with dark red spotting on the three dorsal lobes. The back of the flowers is purplish pink at the edge, melding to yellow with red spotting at the base with calyx. 10-15", 15-21" 10627 Rhododendron ‘Windbeam’ — (‘Conestoga’ hybrid) 4', -25°F, EM, 4/3. The beautiful apricot pink flowers on this popular small leafed Rhododendron change to pure white flushed with a light salmon. The aromatic foliage makes it especially nice on those warm summer days. A very reliable, hardy plant. 6-10", 10-15" 11151 Rhododendron ‘Windsong’ — (‘Nancy Evans’ x [‘Mrs. Betty Robertson’ x ‘Fred Rose’]) 3-4', 0°F, M, -/-. Big, full, ball trusses of very wavy edged yellow green flowers are the lovely song of this hybrid. Dark red nectar pouches and a small dark red blotch at the base of the throat are the perfect finishing touches. Medium sized, rounded leaves of medium green are reminiscent of the ‘Nancy Evans’ parentage. A very lovely song indeed. 6-10", 10-15" 10525 Rhododendron ‘Windsor Lad’ — (ponticum hybrid) 4-5', -10°F, ML-L, 4/3. Here is about the flashiest flower you will see. It is a blue-purple with a flash of light in a golden eye. That gold just glows against the purple background. If you are a purple fan, you’ve just got to add this to your collection. The foliage is narrow, about medium length, and makes a good looking plant. 10-15", 15-21" 10283 Rhododendron ‘Wings of Gold’ — (‘Nancy Evans’ x [‘Darigold’ x ‘Lacamus Spice’] x ‘Golden Anniversary #2’) 4', 5°F, M, -/-. This is a fantastic Thompson hybrid. Beautiful golden yellow flowers with slight marking of red in the throat. Light green leaves make an attractive plant for the garden. But just wait until those glowing yellow flowers burst forth in the spring, it’s a sight to behold! 15-21" 10626 Rhododendron ‘Winsome’ — (‘Humming Bird’ x griersonianum) 3', 0°F, EM, 3-4/4. The plant is compact with small pointed foliage, and sets attractive reddish flower buds which you get to enjoy all winter. It flowers extremely heavily with beautiful rosy cerise flowers. 10-15", 30-36" 11200 Rhododendron ‘Winter Morn’ — (‘Mrs. J. C. Williams’ x degronianum ssp degronianum ‘Exbury’) 3', 0°F, M, 4/3. These medium pink buds open to eggshell white flowers with sparse deep lime green spotting. The deep green foliage is lightly covered with tomentum in youth. A beautiful, crisp looking color scheme on a compact attractive plant. 10-15", 15-21", 21-30" 10567 ‘Rhododendron Winter Snow’ — (‘Kimberly’ x aberconwayi) 4', -10°F, EM, 4/4. Pristine, snow white trusses cover this plant in abundance. Each flower is lightly marked in the center with a small red mark. The flowers form a fairly tight upright truss, which is unusual for a smaller hybrid. Deep green, rounded leaves on a vigorous growing plant that buds heavily is another quality of this wonderful hybrid. 21-30", 30-36", 36-48" 10870 ‘Rhododendron Wintonbury’ — (degronianum ssp. yakushimanum x fortunei ssp. fortunei) 3', -5°F, M, -/-. A compact grower with small, rounded foliage that displays bronze toned new growth. Light pink flowers create a soft color display. 6-10" 10111 Rhododendron ‘Wissahickon’ — (parentage unknown) 5', -15°F, ML, 3-4/3-4. A good choice if you are looking for a vigorous growing variety that is sun tolerant. The bright rose flowers, with a deeper throat, have brownish spotting.
