This is an outstanding rhododendron worthy of the Rothschild name from which it came. It has magnificent trusses of white flowers which open from primrose yellow buds. The center of each pristine flower maintains some of the primrose yellow. On the back of the upper petal is a large reddish flare. Wow, what a beautiful flower! Good foliage and plant habit add to the glamour of this desirable rhododendron. The new leaves stay red through the seasons, though color tones brighten, then become muted as winter closes. Little is known about the origin of this plant except it came from Ostbo some years ago and for some mysterious reason was not propagated. No one knows for sure whether it’s a hybrid or a sport of ‘Elizabeth’. Dark red buds open to uniformly deep red flowers with darker speckles. Trusses are compact on this bushy plant. This Caperci hybrid is quite new to us and very appealing. It appears the dwarf won’t grow taller than 2', but it will happily grow in width. Purple, lightly frilled flowers are long lasting and plentiful. The hybrid was raised by Ernest Dzurick; hence its name. You will love this low ‘cushion’ of a plant. 6-10", 15-21", 21-30"11018 Rhododendron ‘Eruption’ — (‘Tarantella’ x ‘Seestadt Bremerhaven’) 4', -10°F, ML, -/-. Large, full trusses of creamy white flowers with dark red picotee edges ‘erupt’ from strong red buds on this vigorous and somewhat open growing rhododendron. Interesting, very large flower bracts surround each bud early in the year giving a pine cone effect that is quite attractive. These funnel, campanulate-shaped flowers are nearly 4'’ across! The loose trusses have shades of blush pink to white. The medium sized foliage clothes the long branches nicely. Shamrock-green, narrow leaves are bright year round. The plant has a compact growth habit and is one of the best for heat. 10-15", 30-36", 36-48" 10426 Rhododendron ‘Everything Nice’ — (‘Comstock’ x ‘Unique’) 4', 5°F, E-EM, 4/4. The trusses on this hybrid are a delightful clear pink, and the flowers are graced with rays of lighter pink that give it a glowing radiance. Then as a bonus, it has a calyx that rolls back its lobes as the flower ages, causing a star shaped appearance down in the center of the truss. Most interesting! Grand blossom, foliage and stature, this hybrid knows no other way to grow. Perfectly huge trusses are creamy light pink with a rich red flare at each flower center. Large, thick leaves cloak this tree like rhododendron. 21-30", 36-48" 10225 Rhododendron ‘Extraordinaire’ — (‘Gold Medal’ x ‘Olin O. Dobbs’) 5', -5°F, M, -/-. An unusual hybrid. Rose pink buds open to flowers with pink-edged petals. A huge dark garnet red flare graces the upper petals, and the lower petals have a soft yellow center. Little by little, the whole flower becomes a creamy pink, causing the dark textured flare to stand out even more. Many large 5" individual flowers make large trusses. These lovely, large, full flowers are a soft cream color with creamy pink on the outside and pink shading on the edges of the petals. The cream color changes to yellow deep into the throat and the center is a deep crimson. Crimson spots also dot the upper lobes giving this ‘extraordinary’ flower its finishing touches. Boy, what a flower! Red, and we mean RED! The brightest blood-red you will find. This is not a blue-red or an orange-red but a hot, red-red. Want a show stopper? The combination of dark maroon-purple flowers with a striking yellow blotch is almost unreal. Lots of light pink flowers on a hybrid out of yakushimanum means this must be a reliable rhododendron. The foliage is longer and more pointed than most "yak" hybrids, which makes it different! The buds are deep orange-pink but open to large trusses of 7 lobed flowers that are 4" wide, rose color shading to a yellow center. A delight! 30-36" 11190 Rhododendron ‘Frosted Plum’ — 3', -10°F, ML. (deg. ssp. degronianum Exbury form x ‘Frank Galsworthy’) Deep plum colored buds open to wavy edged flowers. Deep color quickly fades to light purple centers with a purple picotee edge.
