There are not many hybrids made between plants belonging to other series with those which are members of the Subsection Cinnabarina. This is one of those rare crosses. It is an upright growing plant with glossy leaves. In the summer, they often look as if they were polished by some Irish leprechaun, out to spread shiny green throughout the world. The flowers are a delightful apricot yellow. They are not as tubular as ‘Lady Roseberry’, yet they show a strong resemblance to the waxy flowers of that parent. An unusual and interesting hybrid. 21-30"

The black-velvet blotch on the upper petal is so showy it practically jumps off the plant. Each flower petal in the round trusses folds back, showing those delightful deep blotches. The foliage is medium matte green and leathery textured, making a well clothed plant of good habit. It may be hardier than rated. 30-36"

10482 Rhododendron ‘Frilled Yak’ — (degronianum ssp. yakushimanum hybrid) 3’, -5oF, M, -/-. Lots of light pink flowers on a hybrid out of yakushimanum means this must be a reliable rhododendron. The foliage is longer and more pointed than most "yak" hybrids, which makes it different! The beautiful flowers are frilly. Why else would you call it ‘Frilled Yak’? 10-15", 21-30"

10851 Rhododendron ‘Furnivall’s Daughter’ — (probably a ‘Mrs. Furnivall’ selfed) 5’, -5oF, M, 4-5/4. An English award winner. Beautifully shaped, tall trusses look informal because the pink color of the flowers is so young and bright. A cherry-pink blotch in each flower gaily brightens the plant. Lively, large leaves and a pretty growth habit both show unbounded vigor. 6-10", 15-21"

10188 Rhododendron ‘Gala’ — (‘Big Sam’ x ‘Lem’s Cameo’) 4’, 0oF, M, -/-. From Dietrich Hobbie, so you know it’s good. 6-10", 10-15"

10371 Rhododendron ‘Gartendirektor Rieger’ — (‘Adriaan Koster’ x williamsianum) 6’, -10°F, EM, 3/3-4. An introduction from Hobbie in Germany. Many fine rhododendrons have come from Hobbie and this is another. The flowers are a creamy yellow with a small red eye. The plant and foliage show its great R. williamsianum parentage. 6-10", 10-15"

10064 Rhododendron ‘Gentle Giant’ — (‘Point Defiance’ x ‘Platinum Pearl’) 6’, -5oF, M, -/-. This wonderful new hybrid by Merle Sanders of Roseburg, Oregon, will be the hit of your garden. Absolutely "giant" flowers which open a deep pink become lighter pink as they age. Terrific, large, attractive foliage makes this plant a real winner. 21-30", 30-36"

13117 Rhododendron ‘Georgeous George’ — (‘Point Defiance’ x ‘Trude Webster’) This Sanders hybrid has been determined to be a tetraploid, which gives it vigor and size. 6-10"

11007 Rhododendron ‘Germania’ — ([‘Antoon van Welie’ x williamsianum] x ‘Antoon van Welie’) 4’, -15oF, ML, 4/4 .
